Welcome to my webpage! I am an associate professor of mathematics at the University of Georgia. My mathematical interests lie between geometry and topology, including optimal geometry problems such as "What is the shape of a tight knot?", or "How can you measure the topological complexity of a fluid flow?". I am also interested in the arts, especially in computer graphics and in sculpture.
I have been at UGA for 10 years. Before I came to UGA, I was an NSF postdoctoral fellow at the University of Massachusetts, a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, and an undergraduate at Vassar and St. John's Colleges. I usually teach the calculus course Math 2250 in the fall semester and some math major courses in the spring semester. I teach the Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces course Math 4250 fairly regularly. I also run the Geometry VIGRE Group which involves undergraduates and graduate students in a research project. I was honored to receive the Richard B. Russell teaching award in 2007.
My office is Boyd 439. Office phone: 706-542-2610. Email: (my first name) at math.uga.edu. Mailing address: Jason Cantarella, UGA Mathematics Department, Athens GA 30602.

- Class roll helper I host a utility to convert UGA class rolls to the WebWork import format.
- Email Class roll helper I also host a utility to convert UGA class rolls to a CSV format for import into email programs.
- Knot tightening movies I have generated some simulations of tightening knots.
